The Bloodline of Christmas (Hardcover)

£19.99

Every generation was moving toward Bethlehem. Most retellings of the Christmas story skip past the genealogies entirely, a list of names easy to overlook on the way to the manger. The Bloodline of Christmas stays with that list, tracing the remarkable, complicated family line that led to Jesus Christ, one generation at a time. From Abraham's own call, to Tamar's difficult scandal and Rahab's remarkable faith, to Ruth's costly loyalty and David's rise from shepherd to king, to Bathsheba and a failure grace met directly in its own aftermath, to a usurping queen's massacre survived by one hidden child, to a curse that threatened this entire line's own claim to its promised throne, to a hidden numerical pattern spelling out David's own name across Matthew's genealogy, to Mary herself, completing a pattern of misunderstood women stretching back through the whole line, this book traces every generation honestly, arriving finally at a genealogical puzzle rarely explained clearly elsewhere, and the remarkable precision with which the virgin birth itself resolved it completely. Written in a warm, clear, and accessible voice, this is the fourteenth book in the author's Christmas series, and it stands complete on its own. For anyone who has ever skipped past the genealogies on the way to the familiar parts of the Christmas story, this book offers a compelling reason to go back and read them carefully.
