The Men of Christmas (Paperback)

When God spoke, they had a choice. A companion volume in this series gave Mary, Elizabeth, and Anna the careful attention their own witness deserves. The Men of Christmas turns to Zacharias, Joseph, and Simeon, three men whose own encounters with God's direct word ran alongside those same three women's stories, each one facing a genuine choice the moment God actually spoke. From Zacharias's own doubt in the temple, corrected through months of silence before producing a remarkably mature song of praise, to Joseph's difficult dilemma resolved through immediate, wordless obedience and sustained faithfully through a dangerous flight into Egypt, to Simeon's decades of patient waiting finally answered in a single, ordinary temple ceremony, this book traces each man's story in the order it actually happened, giving each one the careful, individual attention his own recorded example deserves. It also turns honestly to Herod, a man given the same clear confirmation as every one of them, who chose murder over worship, and to the wise men's own quiet act of disobedience against a king, proof that this choice was never automatic, and never guaranteed to go the right way. Written in a warm, clear, and accessible voice, this is the seventeenth book in the author's Christmas series, and it stands complete on its own. For anyone who has ever wondered how differently faithful people can respond to the same God speaking, and found each response equally genuine in the end, this book offers exactly that.
