The Promise of Christmas (Paperback)

£9.99

The promise was made. The Saviour came. Most retellings of the Christmas story mention Old Testament prophecy in passing, a verse or two quoted alongside the manger scene. The Promise of Christmas traces the promise of a coming Saviour through the actual structure of the Hebrew Scriptures themselves, the Law, the Psalms, and the Prophets, showing how remarkably consistent these many different voices, writing across a thousand years, actually were. From a prophet promised within Moses' own law, to a throne promised to David that history itself could not break, to Psalms declaring a begotten Son and a pierced sufferer centuries before crucifixion existed, to Prophets describing everlasting dominion and a pierced figure the nations would one day mourn, to the two actual family trees that carried this promise down to a specific child in a specific town, this book traces one promise through every major section of Scripture, converging, exactly as each voice had said it would, on the Saviour who finally came. Written in a warm, clear, and accessible voice, this is the eleventh book in the author's Christmas series, and it stands complete on its own. For anyone who has ever wondered just how deeply woven the promise of Christmas actually is throughout the whole of Scripture, this book offers a careful, thorough answer, voice after ancient voice, all agreeing on the same extraordinary Child.
