The Women of Christmas (Paperback)

£9.99

They carried, welcomed and witnessed the promise. Most retellings of the Christmas story move quickly past the women at its very centre, on the way to shepherds, wise men, and a manger. The Women of Christmas stays with Mary, Elizabeth, and Anna directly, tracing what each one specifically did to carry, welcome, and witness the promise surrounding Christ's birth. From Mary's own willing acceptance of a role that would cost her considerably, expressed in her own remarkable song and carried faithfully through Simeon's own foretold grief, to Elizabeth's own decades of patient endurance finally answered, and her own generous, immediate recognition of Mary's greater significance, to Anna's own lifetime of quiet devotion, positioning her at exactly the right moment to become this story's first public witness, this book gives each of these three remarkable women the careful, individual attention her own recorded witness deserves. Written in a warm, clear, and accessible voice, this is the sixteenth book in the author's Christmas series, and it stands complete on its own. For anyone who has ever wanted to meet Mary, Elizabeth, and Anna as genuine witnesses in their own right, rather than background figures in someone else's story, this book offers exactly that.
